Lost and Found

What a thing to lose. What is the most valuable asset a merchant could lose? His integrity? It is arguable I had very little to begin with. His deposits? Certainly that would be a set back, but recoverable. His spouse? That certainly has happened, but no chance of that here Summer is striding through this gig with me. No, in my case it was my voice. Last night it vanished like our snow of late. Luckily I know a little sign language and so does Chloe, thus the evening was salvageable. Morning brought my voice back, sorry to the regulars, but no sitting and reading in silence. While I am putting the bad news to you; here comes some more... Our bagel supplier, FiddleHeads, suffered a fire over the weekend. We are scrambling about for another vendor to tide us over for the next two weeks while they are mending the damage, but we are not hopeful. Part of the charm of being here is being so far from everything else, sometimes it is also the curse. Stay tuned...

Amidst the decay of voices and circular baked goods we've found something good...Curtis coming through the door, like a rock star, bundled and replete with aviator shades, obviously ready to kick some ass in the kitchen. We whisk away the kids and the dervish begins:

A Hearty Summertime Vegetable Stew (lest ye forget warmer times) $4.50 14oz.

Cream of Potato Basil Soup $4.50 14oz.

Doughnut Jelly Filled Muffin $1.00
Macaroons $.50
HypnoCookies $1.00

The soups are both vegetarian with the Potato Basil having a milk base. Straight forward, satisfying, and as always better than anything else you might be thinking about eating. The Doughnut Jelly Filled Muffin, let's just visualize that for a second. Oh my, that's good, strawberry in the center with the tops dipped in butter and covered with cinnamon and sugar. For those not fortunate enough last week to get any macaroons, they're back and they're mind blowing. Curtis uses his secret ingredient, sugar (you may have heard of it), to elevate these to a melt in your mouth "oh my god" experience. Also on the return list, the ever-present HypnoCookie. Type II diabetes here I come! What a thing to gain.
